Who We Are

BURNING VILLAGE is the wicked stepsister site of METAVERSAL STUDIOS, those wholesome purveyors of social and educational games. Sure, we may seem all nice with our commitment to the environment, science education, and the arts, but sometimes our irreverence goes too far… and that’s when it ends up on Burning Village. Here you can find all the freewheeling PG-13 humor we can muster.

The Staff

Chris Cerrato, Comics Artist & Interface Designer

Chris Cerrato is a solar-powered musician and graphic artist. It is rumored that he lived in a cave until he was lured out by the warm glow of a television set and the dulcet tones of Estelle and Blanche on “The Golden Girls.” He spends his winters in a computer lab, siphoning the radiation from the nearby monitors to keep himself going (as a result, he finds the move to LCD monitors a bit threatening, and is considering a move back to the woods).

He hates bad acting, but loves llamas.

Amy Dancz, Office Manager

Amy Dancz keeps the wheels greased and the home fires burning. Unfortunately sometimes the grease makes its way into the fire, but Amy likes fire almost as much as she loathes telemarketers. An opera singer by training (we’re not kidding, for once), Amy still finds time to kick some serious butt in videogames. And don’t ever cross her at Cranium, either!

Robert Gable, Programmer

Robert Gable is angry. He’s angry at YOU. Yes, you. It’s all your fault. All of it. It’s certainly not HIS fault. Robert’s multi-minority status has imbued Metaversal with a new level of sensitivity towards diversity… which is to say that now we can get away with making even more inappropriate jokes. Nevertheless, Robert loves his work and even occasionally cracks a smile. Or a beer. Or someone’s head open. And he will kick your project’s butt with his awesome programming skills.

Kevin Hall, Project Manager

Kevin’s passions are poop and project management, but he has opted to bring only the latter skill into the Metaversal offices. Despite a sunny disposition and a good (if toilet-centric) sense of humor, it is Kevin’s pessimism, frugality, worriedness, and nagging that keep Metaversal going. Thankfully he has yet to mix up getting people’s you-know-what together with taking a you-know-what.

Jay Laird, Lead Game Designer & Writer

An early videogame junkie and a late-blooming comics nerd, Jay couldn’t decide on a career, so he tried about ten of them, including internet consulting, teaching, screenwriting, and juggling. After discovering that it’s really hard to keep that third ball in the air and realizing that he can’t possibly write more than seven gratuitous breast shots into a film, he decided to return to his indie routes. He founded Metaversal Studios to channel his love of learning and games, and he founded Burning Village to channel his caffeine-fueled sense of humor. He also seems to attract mice to his home and his workplace, perhaps because his breath so often smells of cheese.

John Loren, Comics Artist & Animator

One day the heavens opened up and loosed John Loren upon the world. He is a 21 year old Caucasian male who likes drawing funny pictures and the noble game of soccer. He rocks pretty hard sometimes when so inclined.

James Mullen, Programmer

In the harsh winter of 1985, Jimmy was constructed out of K’NEX by a Lilliputian team of diminutive mad scientists. He roamed the land for centuries, raising Zombie awareness and fooling world leaders as The Mechanical Turk.

Jimmy now stands upright, eats with utensils, and has completed a dual major in Computer Science and Multimedia Studies at Northeastern University. He thinks video games, music, computers, and ninjas are totally sweet. He’s got mortgages and homes, he’s got stiffness in the bones, and he can do a backflip off of a swingset!

Casey Reuter, Comics Artist & Animator

Formerly an evil henchman for “The Great Cabbagio,” a produce-based villain, Casey discovered the bad guy always loses. Badly. Since this discovery he has transferred to the side of good, where he enjoys greater health and dental benefits. Currently, he spends most of his time drawing, animating, and scheming. Some of his major goals are: sticking it to the man and taking on the world. His hobbies include punting bunnies and kittens while professing his admiration for polar bears.
